What people come in for
What a Peel Is Good For
01 / 06
Pigmentation and Discolouration
Removing surface cells carrying excess pigment can gradually even out patchiness and sun-related discolouration. This is also the concern that most needs care. See below.
02 / 06
Sun Damage
Photo-aged skin, the freckling and unevenness that arrives after years of sun. Peels are one of the better answers to it.
03 / 06
Dull and Tired Skin
The fastest thing to change. Most people notice their complexion looks fresher and brighter after a single treatment.
04 / 06
Uneven Texture
Rough patches, congestion and skin that no longer feels smooth.
05 / 06
Acne-Prone Skin
Different peels suit acne-prone skin, congestion, post-acne marks and superficial scarring. Deeper scarring usually needs a wider plan.
06 / 06
Fine Lines and Skin Quality
Early signs of ageing and overall radiance, particularly where the problem is the surface rather than the structure.

How it works
What a Chemical Peel Actually Is
A professional resurfacing treatment. A carefully selected solution is applied to the skin to produce controlled exfoliation, taking away damaged and ageing surface cells and encouraging fresher skin to come through underneath.
Different types and strengths do different jobs. Some are designed for gentle surface rejuvenation with essentially no downtime; stronger treatments resurface more deeply for the people they suit. Which you get is decided after your skin has been looked at, not before.
Peels for Pigmentation: Read This First
Peels can be very useful for pigmentation, but pigmentation is also where an inappropriate peel does real harm. Some skin types carry a greater risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and some pigmentation conditions get darker if the skin is treated too aggressively.
That is why the assessment, the choice of peel and the aftercare matter more here than anywhere else, and why you may be told that a gentler course over longer is the right answer rather than the strong treatment you came in for.
What Happens on the Day
Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared. The peel solution is applied to the treatment area for a controlled period. You may feel warmth, tingling or mild stinging depending on the type and strength. The treatment is then completed to that peel’s protocol and your aftercare is talked through properly before you leave.
When You Will See It
Some people find their complexion looks fresher and brighter after one treatment. For pigmentation, texture, ageing or acne scarring, a course usually does considerably more than a single session. The number and spacing are set after your consultation rather than being the same for everybody.
Afterwards
What Happens, and When
01 Straight after
Warmth and Tightness
Redness and a tight feeling are normal. With lighter peels you may see very little visible peeling at all. That does not mean it has not worked.
02 Days 2 to 5
The Peeling, If You Get Any
With stronger treatments expect redness, dryness, tightness, flaking or visible peeling. Do not pick, pull or help it along. Let the skin shed naturally, or you risk marking it.
03 The first fortnight
Protect It Properly
No retinol, acids, scrubs or exfoliating skincare until you are told otherwise. No waxing or other facial treatments on that skin. Keep it moisturised with what you are given, avoid excessive heat, and use a high-factor broad-spectrum SPF every single day, especially if we are treating pigmentation.
04 Over a course
The Cumulative Result
Pigmentation, texture and scarring improve across a course rather than in one go. Your schedule is built around your skin and reviewed as it changes.
Depth against downtime
How Deep Does a Peel Actually Go?
Move the slider. The layers it reaches come away, and the fresh skin underneath comes up to meet you.
Light
- Downtime
- No real downtime
- Used for
- Dullness, early texture, congestion, and keeping skin in good condition, often used as a course rather than a one-off.
Redness for an hour or two and possibly a little tightness, often no visible peeling at all, which does not mean it has not worked. You can wear make-up the next day.
Medium
- Downtime
- Two to five days
- Used for
- Pigmentation, sun damage, uneven tone, fine lines and post-acne marks. The workhorse of the three.
Redness, tightness and dryness, followed by visible flaking or peeling over several days. Plan it away from anything important, and do not pick at it.
Deeper
- Downtime
- About a week
- Used for
- More stubborn pigmentation, textural change and certain acne scarring, in people it genuinely suits.
Marked redness, definite peeling and real sensitivity for a week or so. Only offered where it is right for your skin, and never at a first appointment.

Questions People Ask
It depends entirely on the strength. Lighter peels often produce almost no visible peeling. Stronger ones do, over several days. You will be told which to expect before you book, so you can plan around it.
You will feel warmth, tingling or mild stinging while it is on. It is short-lived and most people find it very manageable.
Often yes, but this is exactly why assessment matters. Some skin types carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation, and the peel is chosen accordingly.
For brightness, sometimes one. For pigmentation, texture or scarring, a course. The schedule is set after your skin consultation rather than sold as a package.
Not immediately, and how long depends on the peel. You will be given clear aftercare instructions for your specific treatment.
Sun protection, without exception, particularly when treating pigmentation. A high factor broad-spectrum SPF, every day, whatever the weather.
